These trade cards were a form of advertising similar to handing out a business card. Printers created art based on the type of business and then customized the card for each customer by printing the business' name and address on the card.
The image of the Symons & Humes cards was very small and not very good quality. A reverse image search found good quality versions of the same cards imprinted for Chas. Avery Boots, Shoes and Hats in Hartford, CT.
