Albert L. Hannah
"The life story of Albert L. Hannah, founder of the Hannah Funeral Home In Blanchester, began on May 31, 1879 near Georgetown in Brown County. He was born there on that date.
At an early age, his parents moved to Clinton County near Clarksville, Mr. Hannah receiving his education in the Clarksville schools. At the age of 18 he started as a student embalmer and In 1902 after receiving his embalmer's license opened a mortuary In Martinsville. This he managed until 1906, when the much large village of Blanchester attracted him. He moved there and opened the Hannah mortuary.
He moved the Hannah Funeral Home to Its present location on W. Main Street, In Blanchester, in 1914. The funeral home was remodeled and redecorated in 1923 and another remodeling project was completed in 1929. In fact, it has been the policy of Albert L. Hannah and of his son to be continuously making improvements to the funeral home In order that they may better serve the public.
In August, 1928, Albert L. Hannah purchased the R. W. Sacker Furniture Store in Blanchester; the only one in the village at that time.
Mr Hannah was an ardent church worker, being a member of the Blanchester M E. Church. He was affiliated with Masonic Lodge, Odd Fellows, Modern Woodman of America Lodges at Blanchester and a member of the Blanchester Chamber of Commerce.
Mr Hannah was married May 8, 1908, to Miss Arena Jay of Martinsville. Mr. and Mrs. Hannah had one son, David B. Hannah, who was born January 21, 1914. Mrs Hannah died in 1936 and Mr Hannah died in 1942. The son, D. B. Hannah, has continued to own and operate the business since that time.
Following the death of David B. Hannah's mother in 1936, Mr. Hannah married Mrs. Hallie Hopkins Baldwin in 1939.
David B. Hannah attended Wilmington College and later married Miss Mary Elizabeth Farquhar, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Benjamin Farquhar of Wilmington. They have one daughter, Joan Elizabeth, 13 years old. In referring to the business as it is conducted today, David B. Hannah, was quick to state that he had continued to conduct the business on the same basis, which his father had established and upon which he had been so successful.
Speaking of recent changes, Mr. Hannah pointed out the added comfort which had been given to those he served by completely air conditioning the funeral home, as well as air conditioning all funeral cars.
The Hannah Funeral Home offers 24-hr. ambulance service. It has an ambulance equipped with two-way radio and completely equipped with everything to make it comfortable and safe. Every precaution has been taken in this ambulance to protect the patients."
