In 1859, Harlan Township did not exist yet. It was officially created March 16, 1860. Before being formed into a township all of the township's land was contained in Salem Township.
Harlan Township lies in the southeast corner of Warren County and includes the towns of Blanchester, Level Station and Pleasant Plain.
